Overcoming Self-Doubt as a Healer
I’ve noticed that self-doubt is surprisingly — or maybe unsurprisingly — common among healers. Perhaps it’s because the work we do deals with the unseen: the subtle shifts, the invisible energies. When there’s nothing tangible to hold in your hands or see with the naked eye, it’s easy to wonder: Is this working? Am I really helping?
I also find that self-doubt ebbs and flows along the Healer’s Path. It can sneak up when we least expect it, sometimes derailing us entirely and sending us spinning into the darkness.
But here’s the thing: self-doubt can actually be a good companion on the journey. Not that I’m advocating for unhealthy relationships, of course, but self-doubt can encourage honesty with oneself. It invites us to take personal inventory and helps keep the more negative aspects of our ego in check. It can also keep our cup empty—so we remain students, open to learning and growth.
This kind of self-doubt—the kind that encourages self-reflection—is the kind I like to sit down with over a cup of tea. What does it have to share with me? Is there room for improvement? Maybe even something sweet to offer?

Where it becomes a problem is when self-doubt starts to show up as excessive self-criticism, fear, second-guessing, lack of confidence. When the voice of self-doubt gets so loud that it’s no longer about how we can improve or grow—it becomes about convincing ourselves we’re not good enough, that we’ll never measure up, or that we should just give up altogether.
What to do if you're experiencing self doubt
Here are a few things to do if you find your mind spinning out into the abyss:
Self-healing
I know, I know — this might sound like a blatant, obvious suggestion! But sometimes we just need that gentle reminder. When you’re in the midst of it, it can be easy to forget that you actually have tools to help navigate these moments. If psychological healing is within your wheelhouse, work on yourself. If not, seek out a healer who can support you. And sometimes, my fellow healing friends, it’s just nice to sit back and receive. Am I right?
Get feedback from your clients
Getting feedback from clients can help build your confidence, show you what worked and what didn’t, and highlight areas that may need more attention. Contrary to popular belief, energy healing isn’t a panacea for all ills—there are other important factors to consider, like diet, exercise, and lifestyle. So don’t be discouraged if you see little to no improvement right away. Sometimes, other factors need to be addressed.
Celebrate the small stuff
This is an important practice. Depending on your personality, it might be easier to focus on what’s wrong or what needs improvement—but it’s just as vital to celebrate your wins. This isn’t about being egotistical or shouting, “Look at me!” No. It’s about truly acknowledging the progress you’ve made and the positive moments along the way. Celebrating small victories is a powerful way to help reprogram your mind toward greater balance and positivity.
In an industry that’s always pushing us to look for what’s next to work on, it’s crucial to also take time to celebrate all the good things too.
