Akashic Records vs. Psychic Readings: What’s the Difference?

Sometimes there can be some confusion as to the difference between Akashic Record Readings and Psychic Readings.

Both offer spiritual guidance, but they do so in very different ways.

If you’re seeking answers about your present life, current life situations, or deeper spiritual growth along your spiritual journey, understanding how each modality works can help you choose the right type of support.

In this introductory guide, I’ll walk through some of the key differences between the two to help you understand which may be the better fit for you.

How Information is Received While Accessing the Akashic Records vs Psychic Reading

One of the key differences between an Akashic Record reading and a psychic reading is the way we receive information.

With an Akashic Record Reading, the source of the information is what many refer to as an Akashic “library” — an energetic record containing information about your soul’s journey across lifetimes. Through accessing the Records, insight can emerge around the deeper patterns, experiences, relationships, and challenges unfolding in your life.

Sometimes this can include information connected to past lives, significant past experiences, ancestral patterns, soul contracts, and other influences that may still be impacting you in the present.

While the Akashic Records are not about predicting fixed future events, they can offer clarity around what is influencing your current path. This can help people better understand recurring patterns, heal aspects of the past, move through blocks, and make more aligned decisions moving forward.

With Psychic Readings, there is often more focus on present energy, future possibilities, and where things may be heading. Psychics generally read and sense the energy field of the client intuitively and may also use other tools as part of the reading. This can include tarot cards, oracle cards, mediumship, astrology, pendulums, or other intuitive practices depending on the practitioner.

So why can’t we predict the future using the Akashic Records? From an Akashic perspective, the future is not fixed and is constantly being shaped by the choices, actions, and direction you are taking in the present.

Doesn’t Being an Akashic Record Reader Mean You Must Be Psychic?

No. I would not personally call myself a psychic, although I have met Akashic Record Readers who are psychic as well.

In my experience, accessing the Akashic Records is less about having a special psychic gift and more about learning how to access a specific energetic space or field of information through a particular process and intention.

It’s also important to note that when we open your Akashic Records, you are not suddenly completely transparent or exposed. Information is accessed through questions and intention.

Think of the question as a key. That key helps open the Records to the particular information, guidance, or insight we’re looking for. This is part of why having clear questions and areas of focus can be very helpful during an Akashic Records session.

Different Types of Questions Asked Between Akashic Records and Psychic Readings

Another difference between Akashic Record Readings and Psychic Readings is often the types of questions being asked.

With Psychic Readings, people may be more likely to ask questions focused on future possibilities, timing, relationships, career paths, or what may happen next in a particular situation. For example:

  • Will this relationship work out?

  • Am I going to change jobs?

  • What is coming up for me this year?

  • Is this person thinking about me?

With the Akashic Records, the focus tends to shift more toward understanding the deeper patterns, lessons, and influences connected to a situation. Questions are often centered around healing, self-awareness, soul growth, and understanding why certain experiences continue to repeat themselves.

This reflects the difference between seeking external answers and developing deeper intuition, self-awareness, and connection to your own inner wisdom.

For example:

  • Why do I keep repeating this pattern in relationships?

  • What am I meant to learn from this experience?

  • What is blocking me from moving forward?

  • What deeper influence is affecting this situation?

  • Is there a past life or ancestral connection influencing this challenge?

This doesn’t mean one approach is better than the other. They simply offer different perspectives and types of support. Sometimes people are looking for guidance around what may be unfolding ahead, while other times they are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and the root of what they are experiencing.

One very important note to mention here is that during an Akashic Record Reading, we cannot open the Records of another person without their consent.

Because of this, questions about other people are approached differently. Rather than accessing someone else’s Records directly, the focus remains on you, your experience, and your relationship to the situation.

For example, instead of asking, “What is my spouse hiding from me?” a more appropriate question within the Akashic Records might be:

“How can I best support my spouse?”

Or:

“What do I need to understand about this relationship?”

This helps keep the session grounded in personal growth, healing, understanding, and ethical practice.

The Transformational Nature of the Akashic Records

In my experience, spending time in the Akashic Records can be deeply transformational. Part of this comes from the nature of simply sitting within that energy. Even being in the Records can create shifts, healing, clarity, and energetic clearing for some people.

Akashic readings can support deep healing, bring light to unresolved experiences, and help you understand karmic patterns or past life trauma that may still be influencing your present life.

People have shared with me that certain areas of their life or relationships began to improve, even when we weren’t directly focusing on those particular issues.

Beyond this, we can also actively work within the Records to support healing and clearing. Sometimes the information that comes up can reveal deeper “layers” of an issue that are ready to be healed, cleared, or better understood. If this is the case, I will always check in with you first.

In this way, it’s possible to do a form of energy healing while within your Records. However, this is always approached gently and only if it feels right for you during the session.

How Do You Know Which One You Need?

I think this depends a lot on a person’s motivation, personality, and what kind of support they are looking for at that particular time in their life.

If you are someone looking for insight around present circumstances, future possibilities, timing, or where a situation may be heading, then a Psychic Reading may feel like a better fit for you.

If you’re drawn to deeper self-understanding, healing, personal growth, or exploring the underlying patterns shaping your life, then an Akashic Record Reading may be the better option.

People are often drawn to the Akashic Records during periods of transition, awakening, healing, or when they are feeling stuck. They may also seek out the Records when trying to bring a specific goal or vision into creation, or when looking for deeper understanding around recurring patterns and challenges in their life, etc.

One of the biggest differences, in my experience, is that Akashic Record Readings are not only informational, but transformational. The session itself can trigger healing, energetic shifts, clarity, and movement in areas where someone may have felt stuck.

At the end of the day, there’s no “better” modality, only what feels right and supportive for you at this point in your journey.

What to Expect in an Akashic Records Session

During an Akashic Records session, we will begin by opening your Records together and exploring the questions, challenges, or areas of focus you would like support with. Sessions are relaxed and conversational. Every session is unique and unfolds a little differently depending on the person and what comes through in the Records that day.

Through this process, you may receive profound insights, connect with your higher self, and gain a deeper understanding of karmic patterns, past life trauma, and the influences shaping your current life situations. The Records can offer a space for deep healing, inner work, and alignment with your life purpose.

Rather than predicting fixed outcomes, this work supports your free will by helping you make empowered, conscious choices with greater clarity, intuition, and trust in your own spiritual guidance.

For all new clients, a free discovery call is required before booking your first session. This is helpful for understanding if an Akashic session is right for you. You can book your discovery call here.

If you’re feeling drawn to the Akashic Records and ready for greater clarity, healing, and spiritual guidance, I invite you to connect.
