Can Anyone Learn to See Prana?

Over the years, I’ve heard many people say they believe seeing energy, or prana, only happens during mystical experiences, or that it’s reserved for the gifted few. In my own experience, I haven’t found that to be true. What I have found is that even the most skeptical of us can begin to perceive energy.

When I speak about seeing energy here, I’m not referring to auras or dramatic psychic experiences. I’m talking about perceiving prana, the universal life force that keeps us alive and supports health in the physical body. It’s a natural place to begin because it is often one of the easiest forms of energy to perceive. You don’t need to be clairvoyant to do this, and learning to see it can provide a strong foundation for perceiving other kinds of energy later on.

In this post, you'll discover if anyone can learn to see prana, simple tips for developing sensitivity, and why this awareness matters more than most realize.

What is Prana?

So what is this prana, or energy, that I’ve been referring to?

Prana is life force. It not only keeps us alive, but also supports everything around us.

For anything to be healthy and functioning, it needs prana. It’s not just about the body or mind, but also our relationships, our goals, and our overall sense of stability.

Where does this Prana come from?

You and I live in an ocean of prana. It’s all around us. And yes, I’m going to use that word… literally.

One of the primary sources of prana is the sun. Here on Earth, pranic energy expresses itself in different forms, each with its own function and quality. At this stage, I don’t think it’s necessary to understand all the differences between these types of prana. What matters most is beginning to open up the sense itself.

No matter where you live in the world, you move, breathe, and exist in an ocean of prana, whether you feel it or not. Whether you’re in a natural environment or in the heart of a major city, it’s around you in everyday life—in the air, in light, and throughout nature and the earth. Prana flows through the world in subtle ways, and learning to sense it is part of becoming more aware of energy in daily life.

Can anyone learn how to see Prana? (& why it matters)

The answer is yes: most people can learn to perceive prana with guidance and practice. If you've ever thought, "I could never do that," you're not alone. It's one of the most common reactions I hear.

While it may sound fantastical, seeing energy is less about having a mystical gift and more about learning to use a subtle sense we all have. Like many things, it takes a little time, practice, and willingness. Skepticism is welcome, but even a small amount of openness helps. You don't have to be spiritual or religious to explore it.

Sometimes people think that the experience is going to be dramatic, when it’s really quite subtle. It’s when we’re in a relaxed state we start to see it, noticing energy flowing and small subtle shifts in perception. Sometimes when people learn to see energy they realize they’ve seen it for a long time, they just never knew what it was.

For others, the way a person tends to think can make a difference. If someone is very analytical, learning to see energy can be less about trying harder and more about relaxing the mind. It can be a matter of not overthinking, not expecting anything, and not pushing for an experience. When we soften that mental activity, it becomes easier to notice subtle energy.

That’s part of why this matters to me. I think it’s important to have direct experiences and draw your own conclusions.

Developing a skill like this can help people build discernment, trust themselves more deeply, and relate to energy in a way that feels grounded and personal. It goes beyond spirituality, religion, or any belief systems we may have. It’s something universal. Something human. Something that connects us to the entire universe and to all living beings.

For healers and wellness practitioners, I think there is real value in being able to perceive the energy that supports health in the body and mind. For those receiving healing or treatment, it can also be meaningful to see or sense the energy being used in that process.

Tips for Cultivating Long-Term Sensitivity to Seeing Prana

Seeing prana is less about forcing an experience and more about creating the right conditions for it to happen. When people have difficulty seeing prana, it’s often not because they lack the ability, but because something is getting in the way of their focus and awareness. Here are a few examples of what I mean:

  • Distraction is one of the biggest obstacles. Notifications, work, other people, and the general busyness of daily life can make it harder to settle enough to notice something subtle.

  • Trying too hard can also interfere. It is often in the “not trying” that we begin to see prana. When we strain, expect, or push for an experience, we can end up moving further away from it.

  • Slowing down matters too. This practice does not require a lot of time, but it does ask us to carve out a little space, eliminate distractions, and let ourselves settle. There needs to be some stillness, quiet, and relaxation for prana to become easier to perceive. Especially in the beginning when we’re learning.

  • Consistency also helps. If someone stops practising altogether, it can be harder to build awareness, confidence and familiarity. Often, once a person begins to see prana, it becomes easier to recognize again and again.

  • Getting too wrapped up in the mind can create another barrier. Overthinking, analysing, or doubting every part of the experience can interrupt the natural openness that helps perception. It’s in the non-thinking that we begin to see.

So in many ways, this is less about ability and more about creating the right conditions to develop this skill. Once you begin to see prana, seeing it over and over again becomes easier no matter what the conditions. But in the beginning setting yourself up for success is important.

What if you had simple guidance for exactly that?
