Overactive Crown Chakra
When developed, the Crown Chakra (also known as the Sahasrara Chakra or seventh chakra in the 7-chakra system) is a center of spiritual consciousness.
It oversees the health of our brain and nervous system while expanding our capacity to love and care for people in other places who may be suffering - people whom we’ve never met, nor probably ever will.
Its love goes beyond our friends, families, and immediate communities, giving us the ability to experience a universal love and sense of connection.
Its spiritual functions offer us direct knowing, spiritual wisdom and insight. It allows access to the Akashic Records and is often one of several areas that is absolutely important to develop as healers.
So why would having a large or overactive Crown Chakra ever be a problem?
An overactive Crown Chakra becomes problematic when it's out of balance with the rest of the energy body. Some of you may have heard me say this before: the largest chakra on your energy body governs your personality, your thoughts, speech, and actions. When we focus on balancing the chakras, these aspects begin to align, creating greater self-awareness and personal growth. It also can be problematic when there are blockages in the energy channels that run through the body.
In this post, we’ll explore the signs of an overactive Crown Chakra - how it can show up in everyday life, why it becomes unbalanced, and what you can do to realign it within the entire chakra system.
Real world signs you may have an overactive Crown Chakra
When your Crown Chakra is overactive, the effects aren’t just spiritual, they often spill into your everyday routines and responsibilities, whether it's difficulty focusing, mental fog, or even deeper feelings of disconnection.
Because this energy center governs thought, awareness, and higher consciousness, an imbalance here can make it difficult to stay connected to daily life.
Below are some of the signs that may appear when the Crown Chakra is out of balance.
Inability to hold a job (when capable).
When the Crown Chakra is large and out of balance with the other chakras it can be tough to hold down a job. People may bounce from job to job quite easily. There may be issues with showing up to work, having a routine or schedule. Remember, a dominant Crown Chakra will be heavily influencing the mind so it could be hard for a person to understand the importance of work, or why they need a job in the first place.
Money Problems
Which lends us to the next sign, often there are money problems in people’s lives. While the Crown Chakra is a center of spiritual wealth, it does not lend itself to financial wealth.
Losing Things
Often people have a tendency to lose or misplace things. Frequently losing keys, debit cards, etc. is often a sign.
Inability to Commit
It can be hard to commit to plans, appointments, schedules, people or long-term goals.
Hard time bringing goals or ideas to fruition
Often people have a lot of ideas, but have a hard time making it happen.
All of these examples can be the result of a dominant Crown Chakra paired with weaker lower chakras. The lower chakras are what connect us to the physical world. They keep us grounded, support our ability to manifest goals and dreams, contribute to financial stability, and help us stay and feel connected to our daily lives and the world around us.
Spiritual Signs
There may be a strong tendency to want to meditate often, read large amounts of spiritual material and learn about spiritual concepts, or spend most of one’s time engaged in “spiritual” activities. These things may come easily, while navigating the physical world can feel difficult or overwhelming.
On some level, there may be a reluctance to connect to the physical world. This can be influenced by what is happening locally, globally, or both. A person may feel a desire to disconnect or separate from it all.
At times this can show up as a sense of spiritual superiority over others. A person may feel that their understanding, practices, etc. are more advanced than others. That they ‘know’ and that others do not. In some cases, this can lead to an abuse of influence or power.
The first two points are usually linked to weaker lower chakras, while the tendency toward spiritual superiority is more complex, often involving multiple areas of imbalance and requiring deeper healing.
Physical Symptoms
Sometimes an overactive Crown Chakra can show up primarily through physical symptoms.
A person may not experience the behavioral or spiritual signs described earlier, but physically experience recurring headaches, sharp or stabbing pains in the head or ears, or a general feeling of pressure or heaviness around the eyes. Sometimes it can also show up as brain fog or inability to focus.
These physical issues often occur when the Crown Chakra is overactive in combination with blockages in the energy channels of the head, creating tension and discomfort in these areas.
This can be common with people who meditate regularly or are Healers, Akashic Record Readers, Channelers, etc. Energy is coming down into the Crown Chakra, which naturally causes it to get big, but with the blockages in the energy channels - pain and suffering can result.
What leads to an overactive Crown Chakra?
While there are a number of things that lead to an overactive Crown Chakra, some of the more common reasons include:
Too much meditation or spiritual practice. More is not always more. Without balancing practices, the Crown can quietly become the dominant chakra over time.
Being spiritually inclined naturally. Some people simply come in this way, and that's a beautiful thing, it just means the lower chakras need a little more attention and care.
Past trauma. When the physical world has caused a lot of pain, the spiritual world can feel like a much safer place to be, and over time, that disconnect shows up in the energy body.
Not wanting to be part of the physical world. There's a lot of suffering out there, locally and globally, and it can cause people to energetically check out, sometimes without even realizing it.
Lack of exercise and connection to nature. Physical activity and spending time in nature are two of the most underrated ways to keep the lower chakras healthy and the energy body in balance.
Too many spiritual images, blessed objects, etc. around. Your environment has energy too, and a space that's heavily loaded with spiritual objects can contribute to an already dominant Crown.
These are just a few examples. So, the next question is, what can we do about this?
How to Balance an Overactive Crown Chakra
When your Crown Chakra is overactive, chakra balancing helps tremendously. Below are some tips to help you get started, like grounding and alternate nostril breathing, to restore harmony by redirecting excess Crown energy to lower chakras like the Root.
Grounding to help strengthen lower chakras
Grounding is a powerful tool for restoring stability and balance within the energy body.
It acts as an indirect yet effective way to bring healing to the Crown Chakra, because by strengthening your foundation and nurturing the Root Chakra, you create the support needed for higher energy centers to flourish.
When it comes to weak lower chakras, we want to make sure we’re grounding regularly. And by regularly - I mean like every day.
Consider this your homework for the months to come, because doing it once or twice a week won’t be enough. If you do have a spiritual practice then you can do it right after you’re done. That way you can ground all this beautiful energy you’ve generated and bring into the physical world.
I know there’s some of you that don’t want to connect to the physical world, but hear me when I say that when we are grounding, we are just grounding our energy body.
We do this to bring up energy from the Earth. This Earth prana nourishes our tissues, our bones, our legs… our lower chakras. With practice and time it will strengthen the lower chakras, helping to balance out the energy body.
Grounding technique
Here’s a quick way to ground. Ideally this is best done in the mornings or when the sun is up.
Bring your awareness to the base of your spine.
Say out loud ‘I send my grounding cord down into the Earth 3 meters, or 10 feet. I am super connected, super rooted to Mother Earth’.
Spend a few moments in this space.
Alternate Nostril Breathing
For those of you who are dealing with pain or discomfort in the head, ears, eyes, etc. breathing exercises are a great way to get those energy channels clean. One of the best breathing exercises to do for this purpose is alternate nostril breathing.
I like to do this exercise in the morning before I do my spiritual practice, any Akashic Readings, etc.
Take the index finger of your right hand and gently close your right nostril.
Inhale slowly through the left nostril for 6 counts.
Hold your breath for 3 counts.
Switch sides: use your left index finger to close your left nostril, releasing the right nostril.
Exhale slowly through the right nostril for 6 counts.
Hold for 3 counts.
Inhale through the right nostril for 6 counts, holding for 3 counts.
Switch sides again: close the right nostril with your right index finger, exhale through the left nostril for 6 counts, hold for 3 counts.
This completes 1 round. Repeat for a total of 6 rounds.
