Are the Akashic Records Dangerous?
Despite nearly two decades of professional experience as an Energy Healer, and learning a few techniques here and there to access the Records, I didn’t truly understand what the akashic records were until I took a formal class. Even then it took me years to find the right teacher. (I’m not kidding, YEARS.)
I’ve seen how vulnerable we can be when seeking answers or meaning in our lives, and how deeply words can impact us, especially when they come from someone we believe can see or access things we can’t.
Over the years, I’ve actually avoided psychic readings, tarot readings, and similar types of sessions. Partly because I can be a bit stubborn, and despite my line of work, I tend to be deeply skeptical. But also because I believe I am sovereign over myself and my life.
My reason for avoiding psychic sessions wasn’t because I don’t believe in them, but because I’ve seen firsthand how harmful they can be when they’re not done well or with bad intentions.
I’ve had many clients over the years come to me after receiving readings from people that left them feeling unsettled, fearful, or thrown off course. Things were said that never came to pass. Other things were deeply disturbing and stayed with them long after the session ended. Sometimes even for years. In some cases, the guidance received impacted their mental health, decision-making, and the direction of their lives.
Because of this, I completely understand why people would question whether accessing the Akashic Records is safe.
The short answer is no, the Akashic Records are not dangerous when approached with clear intention, respect, and proper process. In this post, I share my personal experience exploring the Akashic Records and unpack the most common myths and misconceptions around them.
My own experience accessing the Akashic Records
What surprised me was that my experience of the Akashic Records wasn’t intrusive, overwhelming, or authoritative. It was loving, non-judgemental, clear, reflective, and insightful.
The Records didn’t tell me what I should or shouldn’t be doing, who I was going to be, or what the future held for me. And that alone was different from what I had come to expect. There was only space for reflection, insight, understanding and healing.
In recent years, spending time in my own Akashic Records has allowed me to become more of who I am. I’ve shed things in my life that I had outgrown or that were no longer a good fit for me. I’ve become more and more myself, and not just that, more comfortable, more loving, and more accepting of myself — cultivating deeper inner peace, self awareness, and self discovery.
That in itself has been a huge gift for personal growth.
Common Myths or Concerns About the Akashic Records
The Akashic Records often evoke intrigue, mystery, and sometimes skepticism. Over the years, many misconceptions have developed—some based on fear, others on misunderstanding or myth. Let’s bring to light what the Records really are (and what they’re not).
Being Affected By Negative Influences and Interference
One of the most common concerns I hear about the Akashic Records is around negative influences, interference, or the idea that something else could come through.
And to be honest, this was one of my concerns too. I completely get it.
One of my biggest concerns about the Akashic Records was how you would know whether you were a clear channel or not. Maintaining the clarity of my own energy, my ‘instrument,’ has been a top priority in my work every single day. My bar has always been high for that. But when it came to something like reading the Records, I didn’t understand how you could really know for sure that there was no ‘interference’ or that the information you were receiving was accurate.
I can’t speak for all Akashic Record practitioners, because there are many different ways people access the Records. But in my work, when we open a session, we begin with a short process that creates a very intentional and sacred space before accessing the Records.
What I’ve come to understand is that the Records don’t function like an open channel where anything can come through. They are accessed in a very specific way, and the information has a very distinct quality to it. It doesn’t carry fear, urgency, or pressure, and it doesn’t override your autonomy.
Records Overriding Your Free Will
In the past, I’ve had psychics tell me I was going to be all sorts of things. Everything from a touring kirtan musician (please take note: I don’t play any kirtan instruments, nor have any interest in that path… I’m much more of an 80's New Wave girl. Think synth, not sitar) to someone whose ‘purpose’ was meant to change the school curriculum for children.
That one, in particular, came with a lot of pressure and was something I carried for quite some time. I was told I needed to have courage or I would fail. And while it stayed with me, it never felt aligned. It just became a burden. I had just graduated from photography school and was happily pursuing energy healing at the time.
The Records are very different in that way. They offer insight and perspective. The Records make suggestions - but they are just that, suggestions. It’s up to you what you take or leave.
Your free will is never taken away. If anything, it becomes clearer and stronger, because you’re able to see yourself more honestly.
For this reason I started to enjoy spending time in my own Records. I didn’t feel any pressure to be anything or anyone. I only felt supported. If I needed healing, I could ask. If I needed to enhance or strengthen something in my character, that energy was available to me. If I was trying to understand why I was stuck on something, insight would come through on what the issues were and how to shift.
Receiving Unwanted Insights or Information
Another common concern is receiving information you shouldn’t have access to.
The Records are often described as a vast ‘library’ of your soul’s journey, but how we access that information is through questions. The question itself acts as the key, bringing forth specific information from this ‘library’. A person is not transparent once the Records are open, information is accessed only through the asking of questions.
Not everything is available at all times. There are times when little or no information comes through for a particular question, and in my experience, that can mean the question isn’t aligned with what’s meant to be accessed. Sometimes we can approach it in a different way, and other times we simply need to move on.
Because of this, it’s not a space where you can access just anything. In addition, I like to check in with people and get their consent before we begin to explore something the Records are showing. If you’re not comfortable, we can shift and move on to something else.
Important notes before booking an Akashic Records reading
All that to say, I don’t think the Records are something we should access carelessly, obsessively, or from a place of desperation. In my experience, they are not a replacement for discernment, grounded support, or practical action. If someone is in an acute crisis, looking for certainty at all costs, or hoping the Records will tell them exactly what to do, it may not be the right time to access them. The Records can offer insight, clarity, and healing, but they are not meant to override our responsibility or our free will.
Like a lot of things with this type of work, I came to the Akashic Records at the right time. When I first learned how to open my Records the energy coming in supported me all through the day. I felt awake, energized and seemed to get through tasks easily. Eventually I went from feeling stuck in certain areas of my life to movement which then led to transformation.
I want to leave you with this: accessing the Akashic Records doesn’t require you to abandon your skepticism or your discernment. In fact, they are some of your greatest assets. The Records offer insight and perspective, but how you work with that information is always up to you.
